Baby Girl Rag Quilt

Some of you may remember this from earlier this year. Well I did it again! (Only this time I got paid!)

My Uncle contacted me one day and told me he'd seen my post on my first rag quilt. He said he had a good female friend who was pregnant and he wanted to give her a gift. He thought it would be nice if he gave her a gift made just for her, so he asked me to make her one . . . and he paid me! YAY to my first paying gig!! :oD

I used the same pattern from the tutorial I used the first time, and I love how it looks!

I picked some pink and brown flannel fabrics that were a little more sophisticated than traditional baby patterns.

My uncle's one request for this quilt was that I find a way to put the baby's name on it (Kaydence). So I made some iron-on applique letters and attached those to the bottom of the quilt.

My one regret with this is that the pink letter fabric kinda fades into the background. I think next time I'll pick a brighter pink (or a more "stand out" fabric).

I also did some appliques on the back! Cute, huh? :o)

I love how it turned out and I hope mama and Kaydence like it too!

Up next? Another quilt for my friend Jeremy and his upcoming bundle of joy. I'll keep you posted! :o)

Ruffle Butt Onesies

It's baby season!! It seems like everyone is having babies! (Doesn't this happen every Spring/Summer??) And lots of babies, means lots of baby showers! (and of course, baby projects) :o) So here's my latest project!

I've been wanting to try my hand at some ruffle butt onesies forever!! The problem? Everyone I knew was having boys!! . . . Until now! :oD So I finally got to try it out, and I love the results!! I'm not-so secretly hoping that my future sister-in-law and my little sister are gonna have girls, so I can make more!

They're super cute and super simple. All you need are some onesies and some fabric. I just used some scraps I had left over from different projects!

Then, I used this easy tutorial I found over at Crap I've Made to make the ruffles. Super easy to do! And to add a little something to the front of the onesies, I made some iron-on appliques. So cute!

Here's my goldfish! (You may remember this fishy from here)

I saw this little chick image and knew it would be perfect for this!

And what little girl wardrobe is complete without a cupcake outfit?

I love these onesies!! Appliques and ruffles! What could be cuter? :o)

I can't wait to give these to my friend! Baby Kelcy will look so cute crawling around in these! Don't you think? :o)

Happy Father's Day!

Today I celebrate my father. The man who taught me how to fish. Taught me how to change a tire. Created my love of SciFi and nurtured my love of creating.

I'm 27-years-old and I still know that if my car won't start, or the light won't turn on, or I want to install a medicine cabinet all I have to do is call him and he'll come running to my rescue.

He's my teacher, my friend, my mechanic, my handy man, my partner-in-crime, my biggest fan and most importantly . . . my daddy.

"A father carries pictures where his money used to be" - Unknown

"My father gave me the greatest gift anyone can give another person, he believed in me" - Jim Valvano

"To her the name of father was another name for love" - Fanny Fern

Happy Father's Day to the best dad a girl could ever ask for! I love you!

How to Make an Iron-On Applique

Want to learn to make a cute applique like this one?

Then you're in the right place my friend! :o)

There's just a couple simple things you'll need to get started:
  • Some kind of iron-on adhesive like Heat 'n Bond (I bought mine at Wal-mart)
  • A cute piece of fabric

Cut out a piece of fabric and a piece of iron-on adhesive that are about the same size

Place the iron-on onto the back of the fabric ( the paper backing should be facing up)

Place and hold the iron on the paper backing for 2 seconds. Repeat the process until you've covered the entire area and the surface is bonded.

Once the iron-on and fabric are bonded, cut out your shape. I printed a picture of a fish off the internet and used that as a template.

Then peel the paper backing off of your applique and iron it onto your surface. Follow the instructions on the back of your adhesive packaging to determine heat and time for your ironing. The amount of time you hold the iron in place varies on the type of fabric.

Ta da!! Now you've made a cute, simple applique!

I added a button for the eye and did some decorative embroidering and the whole thing is complete!

Such a cute fishy! And so easy!! :o)

So if you've been wanting to try your hand at applique, this is definitely the way to go! Get yourself some iron-on adhesive and go nuts!

Happy crafting!

Homemade Griddlecakes (a.k.a Pancakes)

So the other day I was having a bit of a dilemma . . . what to have for breakfast.

For some, this is an unimportant or unnecessary decision. But let me tell you, I am a breakfast freak!! I have to eat as soon as I wake up. None of this not "I'm not hungry" or "It's too early to eat" nonsense! If I'm awake, I need food . . now!

It's also my favorite meal of the day! I could eat breakfast all day everyday (and sometimes I do!).

Anywho . . . back to my dilemma. It was a few days before payday, so I didn't have any money. I was out of cereal and out of waffles. It's too hot for oatmeal (it's been in the 100's here, in case you were wondering) and I really wasn't in the mood for eggs. What's a girl to do?

Then I remembered a post I'd seen a couple days earlier at lifeingrace. Edie shared a wonderful recipe for homemade griddlecakes from an "inherited" cookbook. I was in the mood for a sweet breakfast, so this sounded good to me! Let me tell you . . . yum!!

 (Photo from lifeingrace)

They were super easy and required no ingredients that a normal kitchen doesn't usual have on hand. They were light and fluffy and perfect!! Edie totally saved my life with that recipe! I've made them three days in a row now!

Seriously, you guys need to check this out! Head on over to her blog to find her recipe for these amazing griddlecakes. You can thank me later ;o)
