I'm very much a planner. Especially in my makeovers. I do all the small projects first while I gather supplies for the big stuff. Once I have everything I need, I hit the ground running so I can get it all done in a day (or 2, at the most). I want my makeovers to be done quickly so I can enjoy them. So until I have all the stuff I need (i.e. paint, a new shelf, etc), I keep myself busy getting little things done and ready to go for when the project is actually done.
One of these "little things" is a new ironing board cover.
Since I decided to spruce up the laundry room, I want everything that's in site to be nice to look at. Well that includes the ironing board, which is in plan sight, hanging out against a wall.
The cover I had on it, was the one that came with it. Just a plan light blue color. Boring. Plus, I accidentally got a little paint on it from an art project. We can't have that showing, now can we?
Have you ever tried to find a cute ironing board cover? It's practically impossible! Why do manufacturers insist on making covers that are boring or ugly? So I decided to make one myself.
I found a this tutorial on Stop Staring and . . . Start Sewing! It's actually really easy to do! If you're a fan of mine on Facebook, you might have seen me complaining about the project being more difficult than I thought. It wasn't. I was just making things more difficult on myself than they were. I got silly and tried to take a shortcut that didn't work and ended up making more work for myself than necessary. So don't shy away from this project because of my rantings. It was my fault. I accept responsibility for being stupid.
Despite my set backs, I love the results!
Way better than boring old blue!! This is an ironing board I'll be proud to have out for the world to see! Well . . . anyone who happens to walk through my laundry room, at least :o)

Too funny - I just put a big slice into my ironing board cover this morning with some scissors. I dreaded the thought of buying another drab cover. You've inspired me - I love the fun fabric you chose for yours!
Oh gosh, I'm so glad the ironing board cover turned out to be easy for you. Otherwise I might develop a complex (that was one of my first tutorials!). :) It looks beautiful and I LOVE that fabric! Thanks for the nice review! :-D
I really need to do this project! Thanks for sharing!
absolutely delightful! I can't wait to make one of these little pretties! My daughter and I, both, just bought that very same fabric! I hopped over from Strut Your Stuff and am so happy that I did. Please accept my invitation to drop in at my place one day this week when you get a moment. I have become a follower and I hope you'll do the same. until later...
You are my kind of girl...you care even about making laundry fun!!
Love your print choice too :)
I'm pretty sure I have the same old blue ironing board that you do or did. I'm going to have to check this tutorial out....it totally needs a facelift :) Yours turned out great!
I love it! my ironing board is in desperate need of a new cover. Thanks for linking up! And art for the laundry room is great.
